Book publishers, anyone?
While traipsing through the Internet on my own quest for publishers, I’ve run across a few directories that I’ve found helpful and I’ve decided to share them here.
Since many publishers refuse to look at anything unless it comes through an agent, be sure to find out what a publisher prefers before submitting anything. That said, small publishers are often willing to look at queries and proposals if they fit into their special niche.
Literary Marketplace online.
The free registration free will get you open access to the small publisher listings plus the name and address listings for the big guns. Full access costs money, but if you mix a free account with a little legwork, and a bit of help from Google this site can open to doors to scores of publishers for your books.
American Book Producers Association.
Book producers (also called packagers) develop book ideas in-house and then find writers to write them. Each one operates differently, so definitely do your homework. Cover letter and resume anyone?
An online directory of publishers that allows you to browse by category. Many specialty publishers and niche markets here.
