This month, my hometown has a festival known as Harvest Homecoming. It’s one of those street fairs where you can sample local foods, listen to local music, buy handmade crafts from local artists… you get the idea. It’s all about “home.”
As the festival’s name implies, it is a time when folks make the journey back home, although most are no longer coming to help with a harvest. They travel to see friends, revisit their pasts, and enjoy the comforts of home, if only for a long weekend.
This weekend, your assignment is to write about homecoming, whatever it may mean to you. It might be a high school dance, or a college football game. Maybe it’s a story about a soldier returning from war, or a newborn coming home for the first time. All homecomings, real or imagined are fair game here.
