Writing Sparks: October 2011

What will you write about this month? If you need some ideas to get the creative juices flowing, try one of these writing sparks. Use the ideas individually, or mix and match them as your muse sees fit.

Query Spark: While the leaves model their autumn colors and Jack-o-lanterns begin appearing on doorsteps, it’s time to think ahead to April showers and spring flowers. Line up those Arbor and Earth Day queries and get them out now.

Character Spark:  Dream up a character who has an imaginary friend who might be more real than expected. Some examples can be found in movies like: Harvey, Stranger than Fiction, Drop Dead Fred

Story Spark:  This month’s story idea was inspired by this post On Holly Burns’ blog: Nothing but Bonfires. Imagine a story about a character who has found or received an envelope (or envelopes) filled with memories from the past. Use the memories to tell the story.

Setting Spark: I love StumbleUpon for finding unexpected images. This one comes from Travel.NationalGeographic.com and offers so many possibilities, I couldn’t pass it up as this month’s setting spark.

Fun Spark: Looking to add a little humor to your day? Take a cue from Collegehumor.com and create a funny bingo game like their Boring College Class Bingo. How about a bingo game to play while watching Halloween horror movies? Stupid-things-to-do-while-being-menaced-by-a-maniac Bingo, anyone?
