Nobody knows writers like other writers. We rely on each other for advice, criticism, and comaraderie. Perhaps that’s why we love quotes and observations made by famous authors. They give us a little sneak-peek at the inner workings of their minds and reassure us we aren’t the only ones who think the way we do.
I found a post on 99% (the99percent.com) offering up a wealth of author quotes. 25 Insights on Becoming a Better Writer by Jocelyn K. Glei uses quotes from 25 different writers to advise us on everything from motivation to organization.
Perhaps my favorite writerly quote in the post comes from Neil Gaiman (#16) on feedback…
When people tell you something’s wrong or doesn’t work for them, they are almost always right. When they tell you exactly what they think is wrong and how to fix it, they are almost always wrong.
