It’s a new year, and I’m on the lookout for new writing challenges to steer you toward. First up, a challenge for picture book writers. The Picture Book Dummy Challenge! For those of you new to writing, or unfamiliar with children’s picture books, a Picture Book Dummy is a mock up used to show agents/publishers/etc. how an author envisions their finished book will look. (Guess I should add that to the Writerese entries, huh?)
KidLitArt, a weekly twitter chat (Thursdays, 9 p.m. Eastern, hashtag #kidlitart) is hosting their second annual Picture Book Dummy challenge. For 25 weeks, participants work toward creating and submitting a dummy in a step by step process. the first step of the challenge was officially posted on January 9th, but there’s still plenty of time to take part.
If you’ve ever thought about writing a picture book, or just want to explore the process, here’s the perfect opportunity to do so. All the details can be found on the KidLitArt blog
