Writing Sparks: February 2012

February is upon us and I’m still having trouble believing January is over. Where did it go? I think I lost mine in a pile of work somewhere.

Anyhoo… It’s that time again. If you are in need of writing inspiration, try one of these writing sparks. There’s something for everyone– fiction, nonfiction, even a little fun. Use the ideas individually, or mix and match them as your muse sees fit.

Query Spark: Welcome to August! Yep, those dog days of summer are on magazine editors’ minds this month. Evergreen topics for August include back to school and technology, along with recipes related to late summer gardening.

Character Spark: Imagine the life of Cupid. Is it all wine, roses, and song?

Story Spark:  Take the tired old  “A man walks into a bar” and give it a fresh twist.

Setting Spark: Following along the railroad tracks.

Fun Spark:  Take a favorite character, and imagine him or her on a new career path.
