Go There, Do That: Mr. Magazine’s Launch Monitor

If there’s one thing working as a freelance writer teaches you, it’s that the market is constantly in flux. New magazines launch, while others go belly up, and to stay on top of the game, you need to keep track of them. That’s where Mr. Magazine comes in.

Mr. Magazine’s alter ego is journalism professor Samir A. Husni. His superpower? Keeping a firm finger on the pulse of new magazine launches. No easy task, since, according to Mr. Magazine, two new titles hit the stands each day.

Starting in January of this year, Husni started an endeavor he calls the Launch Monitor. Updated monthly, Launch Monitor tracks new magazines hitting U.S. newsstands. His latest post (April) shows 71 new titles that debuted in March.

If you’re constantly looking for new markets to approach (you are, right?) Mr. Magazine’s Launch Monitor is definitely worth bookmarking.
