Writing Sparks: June 2013

Summer is here and while there may not be dancing in the streets where you live, there are plenty of outdoor activities brewing. Remember, this month’s activities will be the things editors are looking for come December. Take notes and save them for later!

June’s editorial calendars are packed with holidays. Publications with six-month lead times will be looking to fill pages with Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa. Pitch ideas for crafts, entertainment, and food related to the holidays. Also, keep in mind that if your target magazines look for seasonal material a year in advance (many do), Now’s a good time to trot out those Father’s Day ideas.

An old flame comes for a visit and ignites a firestorm.

Feed your imagination by rereading a few of your favorite summer books.
