Writing Sparks: May 2014

Writing Sparks LogoHere’s a new batch of mix and match prompts to stir your creativity. Where will the muse take you this month?

QUERY SPARK

November story ideas are the ones to pitch this month if your target publication has a six-month lead time. American Diabetes Month is observed this month, as well as the traditional U.S. Thanksgiving Day. This year also marks the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall (Nov. 9th). Homemade crafts/recipes often run this month, as well.

STORY SPARK

The month of May means prom season is upon us. Write a story that has something (anything, really) to do with a big dance event.

CHARACTER SPARK

Create a character based on yourself at 16.

SETTING SPARK

An abandoned haunted island.

PRODUCTIVITY SPARK

Set aside an afternoon this month to do digital spring cleaning. Unsubscribe from those e-newsletters you never read, clear out the languishing messages in your email account, and read all those blog posts you bookmarked so you could get back to them later.
